San Diego County Department of Environmental Health requires all food and beverage workers have a current Food Handlers Certification. F&BA offers both classes and computer training with test to obtain your three year certification.

Please note: The California certification is not valid in San Diego County. F&BA issues the only valid certification for San Diego County Department of Environmental Health.

Computer Training: Computer training; computer training and test is available Monday thru Friday at our office—3110 Camino del Rio south #315—no appointment is required—times you can arrive: anytime between 9 to 11am or 2 to 4pm, cost is $25 and it will take about one to one and a half hours to complete.

The State of California Department of Environmental Health requires a minimum of one Certified Manager of every retail food/beverage business in CA. F&BA offers either an 8 hour training course with test or the test only. The test contains 85 multiple choice questions.

Managers 8 Hour Program: includes a study guide (mailed to you), training, test and 5 year certification with payment of $135 non-F&BA member or $105 F&BA members. Registration and payment can be completed online or call 619-228-2291

Managers Test Only: includes a study guide for self-training (mailed to you), test and 5 year certification with payment of $90 non-F&BA member or $75 F&BA Members. Registration and payment can be completed online or call 619-228-2291

ABC Retail Alcohol Licensed Businesses approved training for owners, managers, servers, bartenders and all front of house employees.

Classes: scheduled classes at F&BA office are listed on training calendar (classes at businesses can be arranged by calling 619-228-2291). Classes are 3.5 hours in duration, cost $20 per person.

Online RABS Training: go to Online RABS Training, register as “Alcohol Seller/Server” then follow instruction for training and downloadable certificate upon completion.

The RABS program was developed to provide training in preventing alcohol abuse in licensed establishments. It is a risk management tool that should be used by all licensees to control day-to-day operations of their business. RABS training covers a wide variety of information, including:

• False identification
• Laws, rules, and regulations
• Clinical effects of alcohol
• Customer disturbances
• Alcohol management

This hospitality-oriented training helps create win-win options for satisfying customers' needs and staying within the limits of the law.
